Hey there! ;)

This Industrial Pump was created as a portfolio piece. I've added some new work, and I'd really love to hear what you folks (being the experts) think about my work, what my strengths and weaknesses are, and what I need to improve on.  Thanks for your help!

The wear and chipping of paint is very random. The rust is uniform across the model. There should be a difference between rust spots (ie. places where rust has eaten the underlying metal and the paint above has chipped away) and paint wear (ie an area that is very exposed to rubbing and scratching with other objects). If you study a lot of real life objects you will notice a pattern for where rust appears and how it affects painted objects. Another pattern is observed with wear (exposed areas like edges) where -due to the way the object is handled, proximity to other objects, type of environment, etc. - the wear is different. Same goes for dirt and grime, dust, fingerprints, burn marks, sun bleaching or whatever.
Everything has a reason and if you look at an object it might seem that its "random" but its not. Start thinking its not random, its deterministic. This is what "experts" mean when they say "give it some history" or "give it a story".
Also, i cannot figure out what is the scale of this object. Some wear is big and some is very small so my stupid brain gets confused. Find a way of telling the scale through the material features.
