Maya - Simulate cloth thickness goes terribly wrong

Hi!

I'm trying to simulate cloth physics with an extrude node applied over it (workflow indicated here: https://area.autodesk.com/blogs/the-maya-blog/rendering_thick_cloth_objects/)

But, when the cloth hits a collision object the vertices go crazy just like fireworks. I've noticed that this is due to the thickness , not the cloth itself. I've tried tweaking several parameters unsuccessfully. Does somebody have a clue?

Thx!
