The Wishing Tree | Courtyard Environment UE4 (Complete)

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great Christmas break and New year.

This was a 6 week team project in which I was the Art Director for and we were given the theme of "courtyard" that we had to loosely stick to. We decided to go with a Chinese cultural aesthetic being inspired from the recent Chinese new year of the Ox with the iconic wishing trees and lanterns as our staple within this environment.

Thought I would post some of the final renders here on polycount for any feedback or criticism from you guys as it always seriously appreciated and useful to help us grow as artists.

Cool theme man! I like everything from the modeling to the lighting, really hits a good vibe. Since the tree seems to be the focus of the topic, I would have liked to see it a bit better lit, to draw attention to it. Right now you have warm and cool lighting, but it's pretty scattered throughout the scene, and so the lighting doesnt help my eye focus on anything in particular. If you had made the wooden building emit all the warm lighting while the moon and the other buildings all emitted cool lighting, and positioned the tree right in the middle of the warm building, it would have really helped to create a focal point.

Just nitpicking tho, great job to you and your team on this!
