Maya Control Object not zeroing out

Running Maya 2019.
What is a good method for having a control object attach to a deformer, so when you move the deformer by way of
the control object , they will both snap back to the dag pose when zeroed out. I'm  unable to parent the deformer
(non-linear Bend) to the control object, because there is already  a translate Z  input coming into the deformer from the control object, see pic.
That connection is enabling the control object to move the deformer in the translate Z, but when I do a freeze transform the deformer snaps back to the origin,  but the control object doesn't.
