The title may sound confusing so here is an image. I select some components, Maya changes pivot to the midpoint of these components and now I want to snap some other object there. I found a solution, but it's annoying to work with:
1. Duplicate the object.
2. Select components.
3. Merge to center.
4. Create -> Locator.
5. Snap locator to the merged vert.
6. Snap desired object to the locator...
7. Delete the temporary duplicate.
That's a lot of steps for such a simple operation. In Blender I'd just snap 3D cursor there and then snap object to the cursor.

it's not as convenient as the 3D cursor in Blender but you can use a cluster to quickly setup a selectable/snapable object at an average component selection.
1. Select components
2. In the Rigging menu set, select Deform > Cluster
3. Snap or constrain object to the cluster
