CAT Rig keyframing issue.

Hi, I hope all are in good spirits.

I'm having problems with a model with a cat rig in 3ds max, which I'm having a hard time overcoming. I've googled it but not found the same problem (maybe I'm just using the wrong queries). 

I've set up a mesh with a skin modifier and cat rig, with envelopes correctly set up with proper weights. I can move the leg platforms around and there's no issues, but when I try to animate it on the timeline it wont create keyframes. This is the first mesh I've taken to completion using the cat system as I don't usually animate, so I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to this. I tried creating a new animation layer in the motion panel, but this does nothing much. I have attached some screenshots and a videos to demonstrate the issues.

The second problem (most likely related to the first) is if I try to animate the cat parent, I get weird distorting happening. It creates keyframes but the entire mesh doesn\t follow it. It just sort of drags parts with it.

I tried to create an animation layer which didn't help.
