Maya referencing naming issues

Hi.

I was just wondering if somehow could help me out with maya and references.
As an example i have a maya scene i would like to reference.
In this scene i have a model with a group called  Peter_grp" inside i have another group called "body_grp" with geometry called "body_geo" and so on. I saved this Scene as Peter.ma
If i now create a new Scene and reference Peter.ma I will get Peter_Peter_grp and underneath my Peter_body_grp and Peter_body_geo

So basically it imports the Filename and not just name inside the maya file.
Is there a way to reference without the actual Filename in it?

Or what would be a good workflow in general? Its first time that i am actually using maya reference.

Thanks
Bert

If you take a look at the reference option box there are three options: 1st to give the file name, 2nd to give another custom name and 3rd not to rename it. The recommended workflow is really to give the file name, giving a prefix is necessary to avoid repeated nodes in the scene and to maintain consistency.
