To UV map in 3dsmax or polygroup in zbrush?

Henlo,
so, when it comes to uv mapping ,painting and rendering i did some creature 3d model and didn't turned out very well because i have had issues with uvs. I uv mapped in 3dsmax then imported model in zbrush, projected detail and polypainted ,then when i wanted to render him in 3dsmax using vray , 3dsmax could not read uvs :S  

Now im working on new one to test some of my skillset, and my question is...
what is better, to split the character in different polygroups (like arms ,legs etc) ,polypaint it in zbrush then render im 3dsmax using vray or to uv map him in 3dsmax?
