When it comes to a studio art test that is limited to 8 hours. What do they expect? Any Advice?

For an 8 hour test you could be asked to sculpt a head from a basemesh and texture it. That's kind of a standard test in the industry.

@popol Any tips about it. As far as them giving you a week but only need you to work 8 hours on it. Did you only do 8.

You'd be expected to do this in a day. Like, you have 4 hours to do all the sculpting, then send your finished sculpt. And then 4 hours after that for texturing, lighting, etc... But that's just speculation based on the art tests I've seen.

On a side note, the art test I did to get my current job 6 yers ago was a 1 hour test, pretty intense

If you are in the studio its more a test if you fit in the team. How you react to feedback and so on.

@oglu Its an in house position. But id be new to the studio. So is the test just a buffer or ?

i think what Oglu meant when asking if it's an "inhouse test" was if you are already in the studio and it's just a test to transfer to a different department / team.

@TaylorBrown oh ok, no I'd be a new hire to the studio. Any tips and what are likly the next steps.

I ment studios do 1day tests for new employees to see if they fit into the team. If there are three artists with the same skill level they take a closer look. You have to work in the studio with team. Not from home.

@oglu so what if that character artist junior test is a simple scan clean up. What are the chances they will judge the test harshly?

Everything is possible. But as long you stay professional and show the will to learn if you fail, you are fine. Its more important to be a teamplayer than to be 3% "better" than the other new Artists.
Just be yourself and give your best.
