Hey! This is really cool, reminds me of Gorillaz I think with this kind of stylised character you have to trust the shapes and angles chosen by the concept artist. Zbrush see-through mode is really helpful for checking your silhouette and proportions. Blocking out some polypaint colours can also help!
Do you think you'll animate him when you're finished? Looking forward to seeing more

Hey many thanks for the feedback! I completely agree, it's difficult to get past the tunnel vision after so much time looking at the model haha. I'll give it another pass in zbrush and try to push the shapes.
I don't know about animating it though, I know some very basic rigging that I use for posing but other than that I completely useless in that field.
Also did a quick pose test trying to think about the final presentation, might be cool to have a cool dynamic pose like the one in the concepts, although my skills really lack in that department.
It's been a while, but i'm finally wrapping this project up, I changed the expression and pushed a bit the proportions and lighting set-up since last time. This was my first time doing something more cartoony so it was definitely a challenge, looking forward to hearing your comments.
I have more images in my artstation if you want to check it out!
How did you do the expressions? Is there a tutorial possibly on how to do that sort of thing?
it's nothing fancy really, it's done after you have your animation ready mesh, you export your mesh to zbrush, apply "Dynamic subdivision" to smoothen it and make a new layer for each expression. Then you just need to find a good reference and use the Move and Clay brush to recreate it the best you can
