Journey of an (Almost) Absolute Noob in 3D

Hi everyone. I suppose I'll introduce myself. I am not currently an aspiring environment artist nor am I currently in school.
I'm 25 and active military and have been for several years now. Currently my position in 3D sits somewhere between a pipe dream and "maybe when I retire". I simply want to get better with every project and enjoy the ride.

However I have a large passion for art and recently( 4 weeks ago)I discovered 3D and fell in love with it. I have moderate background in academic drawing but have recently begun gravitating towards environment art. I hope to receive critique and any feedback that can be offered but most all thank you for taking the time to read this.

Without further ado, shield your eyes.  This was made last week from a tutorial and was my first "finished asset". I will post another image from the tutorial I used to compare it to. Up next will be my current project.

This is my current project. Also from a tutorial. However I decided to deviate from the main concept quite a bit and follow along in order to learn more.  In this one I am going for an ancient temple stylized dungeon theme much like the work done by Michael Vicente and other Blizzard artists.

The last image is a quick lighting test to test readability. I placed the light on the placeholder model I'm using for the player as I noticed a common trend in dungeon crawlers is to have the player act as the light source.
