You can use layers, or masking techniques to get those patterns in the blade cleanly. You can also create it separately on a flat plane and project it in.
Definitely sculpt in a block out of the detail on the handle, and make sure those forms are as close as possible. Don't be afraid to remesh where you need detail.
The straps on the handle could have used a cleaner basemesh, they fuse in a little bit of an unnatural way right now. Metal looks a little soft to me personally. Make sure you gather reference of real life objects too even though you have a conept that you´re following.
Looks already good for a start, but if you want to have real nice sharp edges and formes i would suggest to go inside a modeling programm like maya or blender and try to build a HP with nice edgeflow and stuff for the blade and for the straps it would be nice to have some nice HP's

Is there any way to redo the design of the axehead? It doesn't feel unified.
