Character losing animations once file is changed even if its a straight export and reimport

so im optimising some characters. however even tho the skeleton still is linked, the animations dont work. so as a test i exported the character into maya, exported without changing anything and it still didnt work (the animations arent in the maya file. they're applied to it). any ideas of settings i need to change in maya or UE?

    Moving this to Unreal section since this is ultimately about getting your animations to work with Unreal, and getting eyeballs from people familiar with Unreal will help you.

    Need more info though for people to help you. Workflow specifics. Where are the animations from originally. Screenshot of the problems. etc.
