3dsmax wall painting animation

Hi Guys, I have to create an animation of a spatula applying a material to a wall of a house. How can I do this in 3ds max? Is it possible to animate the vertex painter mimicking the spatula movement then add a spatula model on top off the painting line and animate its movement? I don't care if there are no particles to show off the material thickness, I just need to make the wall painted with a different material where the spatula goes through during the animation.
