[Rigging][Maya] How do I get a hand rig that I can use FK controlls and SDKs on?

I can't drive the joints with the SDKs alone, because then the FK controls don't follow the joints. I could put a parent constraint on the FK controls, but keyframing an attribute with a controller on it ruins the values down the chain. (I think?)

Right now the experiment is one group of controllers with the SDK on them, and a copied group that runs all the controls in FK. I got it parented in the heirarchy so the SDK drives the FK controllers. The problem is the FK controllers don't affect each other down the chain. (eg. If I move the index finger with SDK and then adjust the first knuckle with FK, the second and third knuckle controllers don't follow the joint.)

Is there something I'm not seeing, or a way to do this through the node editor? Or have I just run up against a wall that maya cannot climb?
