I know there are efficient and better ways to model ships but I am not sure if I'm going in the correct or better direction. May I get some feedback or resources of what to consider when modeling ship designs?
Are you working from reference, concept art, or initial sketch? Or are you just kind of winging it, and designing as you go? Unless your goal is designing ships 100% on your own with no outside influence, you should definitely find some good reference images to help you with deciding what kind of details to model and where. You're ships right now are lacking a bit in detail, making it harder for the viewer to understand what types of spaceships they're supposed to be. If you do have reference or concepts you are using, post them here too so we can better understand what you are going for, and help you get there.
