HI,

This might be the biggest thing I am currently missing in Maya as a former max user.
Imagine situation when i want move some vertices with soft selection in awkward way. In max I just setup my camera angle
perpendicularly and use "screen" orientation. That's it.

How do you manage in Maya?

Thanks for any advice.

You can change axis orientation of the move tool by double clicking the move button and there's a drop down menu in the tool settings. There's world, object, component, normal, and custom.

If none of those do what you want the "Transform" tool may be worth a shot. It treats a group of what you're moving as individuals. It's on the "Edit Mesh" drop down on the top tool bar. You can also add it to a shelf for easy access. Though, this tool doesn't have a soft selection, you just have to pick the components you want to affect.

I know this has been awhile but if someone still needs it, just middle drag the object/component and it will move along the screen orientation.
