ShaderFx in Max

Hi guys,
As I am quite new with 3D modelling I would like some guidance if possible.
I am currently creating a generic race track and I am stuck when trying to apply multiple maps and uvs on the outside terrain of the track. When I change the UV index number in shaderfx to match the unwrap modifier UV channel the whole area I have applied this texture goes crazy and looks broken. 
I would really appreciate if anyone has any ideas. Thanks a lot in advance :)
