I am having issues rendering alpha maps like smoke with scaline renderer. Is this possible with scaline renderer? The alpha maps don't have a soft appearance.

3ds Max? Output file format? Render to Texture, or from a viewport, or from a camera?
Need some example images.
What's the material setup? If you're cranking the Output settings, that'll cause clamping in a render.

Thanks Eric. 3Dsmax, png, from standard camera
Using a standard material with png file of smoke texture plugged to opacity map slot :- )

PNG support is not great in Max. I'd suggest using TGA or TIFF for storing alpha channel + RGB.

I got it to work. Make sure in the bitmap node, mono channel output is set to alpha.
