[Finished!] Witch Doctor Book - Handpainted

Hi all!

I want to get better at handpainting textures, and I was inspired by this artwork by Artem Priakhim:


Still blocking stuff out and getting the shapes done; I want to also practice making decals with this, so I'm still working through what will be represented solid and what will be a plane:

Still slowly making progress on this! Finishing up a blocking phase where the main shapes and colors are going to be:

This is my first time really trying to dive into hand painted all the way. I have very little idea what I am doing, but so far it seems to be working!

Any feedback or advice on how to approach this is appreciated!

Made some more progress this week... Starting to add shadows and more detail. Mostly still testing a few pieces each for lighting while I figure this out.

Still making some progress. 

This time I hand painted AO and shadows in, but with future projects I will definitely Be smarter about utilizing Painter better. 

I feel like it’s about time to start adding micro details to everything...

This looks cool! I feel you could have pushed the colours a bit more, as your version is more desaturated than the concept.

That's a good point - I feel like by the end I started learning towards more detail and realism than I intended with the concept, too. Maybe I'll come back to that after the holidays...

Had some time this morning to mess with the colors, and bumping them definitely helps!
