Unity Alpha Hair sorting

is this feature broken as it looks fairly terrible?. the alpha transparency is working kind of ( on my hair planes ) but

the sorting looks inside out in places

TL;DR good looking alpha transparency is too expensive. AFAIK. but I'm not material artist or render engineer.

cutout cards, material render que, and fade material type can be work arounds.
