Hi. I need a tip or advice to sculpt a surface like the black one with small dots on the side of this steering wheel:

The model I'm doing doesn't have UV (because I won't texture i t), so I guess the Noise Maker tool won't help much.

Thanks in advance.

You may not be texturing it, but I'd still consider UVs. They would only take a few seconds to create on a shape like this, and they would open up the possibility of using Nose Maker which will give you a lot of non-destructive control over the result.

Alternatively you can use Nano Mesh. You'll still have a degree of flexibility with it, although the final result is going to depend on the model's topology, and that is going to be harder to adjust on the fly and play around with if you need to make tweaks and revisions.  Here's an example using the Ring3d primitive with a twist value added so that its polygons (and thus the inserted bumps) will be offset.

Thanks. Yes, I was watching some videos and I think the Nanomesh tool will be the best option to sculpt that type of surface (I never used it so I'll practice first). The topology of my model has almost perfect-size quads, so the topology shouldn't be a problem. About the UV mapping, I think the worst thing to UV map are the curved-cilindrical shapes like ropes or rings.

I'll upload the results when I finish.

Ready. Problem solved. Here is the result with Nanomesh:

I deleted the part where I don't want the Nanomesh (I think is better that way than mask it on Zbrush). Now I just need to export it to 3ds Max and put all together.

    Thanks!
