That was what I did. This method leaves me with a little bit of distortion. I wish Substance had some option for warping the image to line up with the curve of the UV

What do you mean distortion? Can you show us how you unwrapped the uv shell?

There will be distortion on the page edges (I assume that's the problem area) when straightened but that's fine.
