I've got a slightly unusual task. I need to pack a whole bunch (like 200+) of not-quite-square boxes with round, slightly lumpy objects. Placement is fairly important - they can't just all be in a random pile.

 I'm trying to work out whether there's an efficient way to do this through Maya or Unity which won't slowly drive me insane. It's pretty fiddly to do by hand and physics hasn't really given me a good result.

EDIT: MASH's distribution looks like it might be viable, but finding something in the metric buttload of settings that'll give me stacked objects without excessive interpenetration is proving challenging.
