Hello. :) I'm going to start learning character modelling and I've chosen this awesome concept by Alia Zhang for a start. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/oOB6rL I like how cute it is and how it has all those cute details like a pouch and a book on the belts around the waist, can't wait to sculpt them out.

So far I have one major question, it's about the right pose. At first, I've imagined this character posed like the one on the Variant 1 picture, It seemed closer to the concept, but sometimes the body looked a little bit unbalanced for me.

At the same time, I've thought that the character looks like it is in the middle of a step, so if to take a look at the walking cycle the pose should be more like the Variant 2. But this one seemed a little less dynamic from the Right side, so I've come back to the Variant 1 and probably going to continue working with it.

So, what do you think about it? Critique is welcome as always. :)

You've replicated the original pose very well from the front but I'm afraid that leaves you with a very awkward side view. I'd change it up a bit to make the silhouette more readable even if it means losing a bit of fidelity to the reference. 2D art doesn't need to look good from all angles so there's a lot of tricks the artist can do to exaggerate poses that won't always translate well into 3D if copied verbatim.

Wow, thank you very much for your Gif! I really like the side view better that way. That's right the motion and dynamic what I've wanted to achieve, that's amazing how the perception of the pose has changed so drastically.
