Hey guys
Here is the AK47 Skin I made for the Counter Strike contest:





(Please remember that the Lowpoly is from CS:GO and can not be changed in any form)
Ingame shots:





CSGO material does not support gloss or spec textures so this was pretty hard to achieve and I made a shitton of iterations to get to that point
but now very happy how the metal turned out, actually prefer it over my octane render



As you can see, the metal works very well (to my surprise - took a lot of trying tho) despite being heavily in the diffuse as well:







This whole skin process based on a existing lowpoly you can not change at all really did teach me a lot about baking and normal maps in this process. You can get away with a lot of things if you really need to, not only in the normal map but also the textures want to be abused and pushed to the absolute limits of what you can get away with.



I used the cinema 4D Signed distance field volume builder workflow for this which is very cool and non destructive
but also a lot of work on bigger models. Here is my file hierarchy expanded:
