Doing some clean up of my profiles and I just noticed I have been a member since 2004 (though I am pretty sure I was a member back as far as 1998 when we where all modding Quake III) and it struck me that it is pretty much the only consistent site I have been a member of.
That's two decades!
I just wanted to give a huge shout out to the polycount team for being amazing all the way along.
So how long is it for everyone else?

In 2004, I was addicted to Monster energy drinks and was just learning how to spay a golden retriever. I played video games, but had no idea I had a future in creating them.
I have nothing on you. Grats, though. That's pretty awesome!
I use my spoon to scrape one more notch in the wall as I listen to the suffered screams of other self-proclaimed "artists" stuck in here with me. A step back reveals an easily countable notch system; 1,076 days. Almost 3 years since I've felt the grass between my toes, or smelled a summer breeze carrying the salty ocean scent.

Aha Found it , thanks for sharing @Eric . Polycount around 2001-2004 looks like a Dark Web Drug Selling Site Discussion forum
I cant remember when i strayed over here, i used to hang out on planetquake a lot and do skins back in quake1 days and then as q2 came out came across this place. My memory fails and i used to have a different username back then(states 2006 as start date) but its probably the only unbroken line of a community i have continued to frequent.
Ack, brings a tear to my eyes..
I was mostly CGChat/CGsociety before that.
I think I remember everyone joined in 2004 because of some Street Fighter contest. I remeber someone did this amazing handpainted Zangief (I think it was Parnell back when he was Modelling Man?)
I've gotta say, this thread along with this one... https://polycount.com/discussion/67377/r13-bearkub-mrd-and-betlog-omg-gwot-evil-bastard-wrath-and-maybe-ror/p1
...have taken me down memory lane. So many familiar names. And it's fun to see that I'm a part of history: http://wiki.polycount.com/w/images/5/5c/PolycountForums2004-11-04.jpg
I originally joined around May/June of 2002. It was after the completion of Paul Steed's contest, but I was inspired by it to try this modding thing with Quake III. For several years, I was a frequent annoyance to many of the founders and regulars here and in the IRC channel.
Back in 2011, I got the opportunity to work directly with Mr. Steed and his team in Austin. Sadly, that was short lived. Although I have met many old school Polycounters in person, I've been away from this community ever since...until today. But, I still play Quake III.
Sorry to dig this up. I liked the title.
@E:
i will never reveal my alter ego's!
Happy early new year announcement from me.
I lurked for a couple years myself before joining in 2009, wish I had found out about polycount earlier though.
I started off by making skins for 'Kingpin: life of crime' when I was 14 (I am 35 now whoa...) after looking around the folders of the game and saw bitmaps I could open in MSPaint. Then I found the Coldfusion chatroom and got into modelling using Milkshape3D (lol), worked on a few mods for a Halflife and made a few maps with Worldcraft. From then on I focussed on developing my skills and getting a job in the game industry, because I was 14 I had to go through 2 studies and it took me 8 years to get there. I worked on a few Nintendo DS, Wii and PC titles but eventually I 'sold out' after working in the game industry for about 2 years and became a designer/developer. Now I work as an art director a big creative agency in Amsterdam, but I never stopped visiting Polycount in all those years.
There is just so much to learn from making art in the boundaries of what is technically possible and it feels like the community here has always been pretty smart, open, kind and thoughtful. Whenever I see some of the amazing artworks posted here I still get that 'how did (s)he do that? / I wonder if I can make that?' feeling I had when I was 14, but I never have time to actually get back into it. So thanks Polycount for still inspiring me at least a few times a week for over at least 15 years!
