[Maya] Transfer UVs question [SOLVED]

I have a character that is already rigged, but has a bad UV layout. I created a good  UV layout in an external application, and have already transferred the UVs to the rigged character (using Mesh -> Transfer attributes).

Everything has worked fine (although I needed to transfer the UVs one object at a time...), but when I move the character using the rig, the texture distorts. There still is the 'transferAttributes' history in the channel box, so thats to be expected.

How do I freeze the transferAttributes entry though so the texture stays in place when I move the rig? Deleting the non-deformer history does not do the trick. Deleting the entire history does the trick, but then obviously the geometry can't be deformed using the rig anymore. I'd like to preserve the rig/ weighting.
