[Critique] Handpump Prop Asset

Hello I have just started to use Substance Painter and getting into making props. I made this using real world references from Google Images. Some critiques I got was that they cannot identify the material as to it is metal or non-metal. Don't know clearly but it may be due to corrosion with water and stains of minerals etc. as it looked somewhat similar in the reference. Can you help on how I could have improved? I'd have to agree, the metal doesn't look like metal (comes off more as cement). Can't say much more without seeing the reference you based it off.
