Texturing Modular Assets at Once in Substance Painter?

Hi All,

Before I post my question, the reason this is listed under technical talk and not Allegorithmic is because I’m not quite sure if my question's solution is something I would have to edit in Maya or a setting I should configure in Painter.

I'm currently working on a modular asset pack which has objects that can connect to each other. I'm wondering if there's some method where I can just texture 1 of each of those assets in the pack and then just transfer that texture over to the others within that smaller group, then just texture the differences on each model. The only major difference between the variations of each asset are some additional connecting pieces and extrusions.

I've attached images below for reference.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks in advance!

First separate out the "core" shared mesh part, and make the UVs, leaving enough extra room to the side, within the UV square, to accommodate the additional pieces you'll add later.

Duplicate the core to make your variants, add the new parts, UV them into the extra space. (no overlaps!)

Then paint away. Reuse the same texture when painting the variants.

The two metal fences on the bottom are going to need a separate texture, with its own layout. Or else, plan for them when you lay out the UVs for the upper 3 barriers.
