Trademark concerns

Hello.  I'm a new member of polycount.  I have been modeling for a few years now, mostly as a hobby.  I have, in the last few months, began taking freelance gigs from Upwork.  Now, I typically just completely avoid any project that even hints at plagiarism or copyright/trademark issues.  However, I have a potential client that has a clear vision of what they want, and I'm afraid that it won't be possible without violating some law somewhere.

So here is what the client wants, and it is really quite simple:  A custom Lego character.  They want it modeled, textured, rigged, and able to be used in a commercial for their own company.  So I have two questions.  First, is this something that I can legally do?  I don't think it is, otherwise I wouldn't be here asking.  Second, if it is not possible, is there a possible way for me to model something similar that would meet my client's standards without violating copyright law, or should I just pass on this contract?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.
