Hi, Is there a way that I can summon back that little bottom left menu that appears whenever I crete a new mesh or modify sth via tools? I could swear I did see a call back option once. I'm sending an img of it in case u didn't click it, thx!
It used to be in 2.79 you could call it by pressing F6 as long as you didn't touch anything (not even a selection). I really don't know why this F6 functionality was removed from the default keymaps. Nevertheless the important thing to know is that operators such as this one can only be tweaked immediately after using them. For more flexibility you will have to use modifiers.
I couldn't force myself on new Blender. Even it having few cool new features. Have it became better now ?
I mean I got slower viewport in 2.8, crushy, a hell of hotkey mess not working after re-adjusting to what I have accustomed (old way) . Is it worth a new try?
gnoop My answer is yes! The fact that Blender has been crushyer is, believe it or not, a good sign, as it happens in the most adopted 3D programs in the industry very oftenly. Its very lean, with a lot of non-redundant tools, plus it have Eevee wich is a blessing of a real-time renderer! U shold definitely try it again! Watch some 'Blender Guru's' tutorials.
pior Many thx man!! Right under my nose.... as always.... Idk if there is how to avoid it, but u could have it minimized, u know that don't u?
Hehe yup - but even minimized I find it visually annoying, because I really don't need to see it pop up like that in my peripheral vision, it's distracting But that will do
@Gnoop : well, overall 2.8 is definitely just a bit less responsive indeed. It manipulates heavy meshes better but the moment-to-moment modeling in general is just a tiny bit sluggish - it's hardly noticeable but it's there. I personally stick to 2.78 for pure modeling, and 2.8 for heavier sculpting + Eevee previewing.
The one thing I'd highly recommend to tweak in 2.8 is the way multiple component selection behaves. By default they changed it to confirm on release as opposed to confirm on press, making it feel sticky and error prone. It doesn't seem like much, but changing it back really helps.
I am trying hard to love Blender 2.8 but can't. Not sure why they decided to force us to jump through all those hoops. Was it really necessary?
Do somebody know a way how to make it look and feel as close to 2.7 as possible? Quick way with a .py file or something? I did switch it to right click select , loved it since 2002, but it's still tremendously inconvenient in general. Lost all its elegant simplicity, key driven efficiency and logical intuitiveness.
yeah, but 2.8 has a cool manual normal editing, bevel baking and face weighting modifier . I could officially drop 3d Max for good. Bit those new interface hoops make me torn apart in-between 2.7 and 2.8.
It's like fixing what was already perfect and better is enemy of good. Like they had an extra budget and somebody came with a cool idea: "Let's add lots of bells and whistles, cool gizmos everyone would play for a minute and switch off. Surely it helps to make lots of fuss and a good PR" . Pretty much like Windows 8.
And that idea of following some "industry standard" is puzzling me too. Most of industry standard software are inconvenient as hell , they are fruits of what happened to be inside some math aliens minds. Never artist friendly, always a complete mess and a riddle.
Blender had been always a beacon of hope among them. Showing it's not necessarily have to be always that way. As a result of some natural selection or something. Even it's right click and left one as a transform center was like a breathe of fresh air first time you tried it.
Blender 2.80 is the work of over four years. It's not a few lines that you could change back. And most of the UI code is C under the hood. So either you stick with 2.79, or you make the move to 2.80 at one point.
*shameless plug* ... or you could try out the Blender fork Bforartists */shameless plug* - But i fear it will feel even odder to you when you have so much problems with the Blender 2.80 UI philosophy, and love 2.79
In the end you have to adopt to something new from time to time. 3D was and is rapidly changing. And i personally find it a good thing that the Blender devs stopped doing so much things their way.
Well, it still had the old UI in the middle of 2018, with many new cool features already in. So I hope maybe someone would do a fork or something.
I wonder what Ton Roosendaal really think of 2.8 . I believe many of what I always liked about Blender is part of his original design ideas. Interface changings was just an icing before. It always stayed same in its core. With everything important on your screen in same logical area or withing a certain key sequence. Very easily memorizing. What's require your attention and awaiting your decision was magically next to your eyes very context aware.
Now it's following same paradigm Autodesk soft always do: nothing works till you find and check in hidden Easter eggs across the whole screen in a menu within a menu and another drop down etc and ironically the same time your whole screen is filled with buttons .
Blender maybe wasn't perfect too but now it step in opposite direction imo.

If anything I'd be curious to know if there is a way to not have the mini popup show up each time ...
