Some progress on another weapon I'm creating for a project. Taking a bunch of elements/designs from many different manufacturers of the Ruger 10/22 rifle. It's intended as an first person view model, so geometry and texel density will be respecting those regards. High-res is mostly done, low res is mostly done as well along with UVs.
super slick. perfect details. with cheek rest stock like that you gotta have a scope though, right?
last image isn't working, btw
Thanks dude! And of course, but in the game, the gun on its own will just be vanilla iron sights, and will get scope attachments I should definitely include some on the render with them attached though!
It may be your black backdrop or the lighting, or a bit of both, but I feel it's not looking quite as slick and sexy as it could. Especially the stainless steel barrel -- notice how in this image the lighting really shows you its form and you got a nice contrast between the polymer and steel parts.
Comparatively, your polymer looks a bit sun-faded or maybe too rough. Its not bad looking, just not as slick and stylish as it could be, I think.
another example. this is some silly stock but look at the barrel and how the polymer has a oily sheen almost.

Aye, lighting will go a super long way with selling the contrast of matte polymer and stainless steel. I wanted to maybe avoid the typical black polymer and have a bit of a faded/super desaturated blue polymer for interest, rather than just black polymer, and white metal.
Thanks for those tips! Definitely going to keep an eye for it when doing the lighting
The rubber looks nice the top reciever metal looks fake to me with the overly round edges and soft look If you look at the reference, it has a milled hard edge and is perfectly sharp Id also try make the metal at least more reflective / bright so it stands out more from the other gray areas, its all very gray right now.

Yeah I agree, it's not as reflect-y and stainless steel as it should be.
The milled receiver part has some matte finish on most manufacturer models I had referenced, and i definitely wanted to contrast that against the stainless steel look of the barrel.

Thanks dude!
Fixed the UV's/packing/scaling elements/baking this weekend, here's a complete bake with all symmetrical pieces welded/assembled. Time for textures!
