[Closed] 3D Animator - Timberline Studio - Los Angeles

3D Video Game Animator

Timberline Studio needs help animating all these huskies, mushers, sleds, moose, bears, squirrels, and more in our upcoming game The Red Lantern! We’re a small team of narrative game veterans sharing an office with a small team of dogs, based in Los Angeles, California.

This is a full-time position. Preferably you’ll be working with us on-site but we can telecommute with the right off-site candidate. We’re looking for someone who brings unique experiences, voice, and perspective to our work and process. Someone enthusiastic about pushing video game animation into new levels of feeling, quality, and style.

Although we use Unity3D and Maya for development primarily, we also employ a variety of 3rd-party software and plugins, and internally develop our own proprietary tools and pipelines for the needs of the production. Applicants will be evaluated more for general creativity, intelligence, and style, rather than knowledge of particular tools and techniques, which will be part of our initial training process.

Requirements

  • Skilled at cinematic and cycle-based keyframe animation using 3D bipedal and quadrupedal rigs in Maya.
  • Skilled at creating cycles and transitions for use in interactive gameplay.
  • Skilled at expressing character performances, animal/creature behavior and locomotion, physical weight and kinematics of living and non-living moving objects.
  • Ability to create/modify basic rigs with skeletons, constraints, set-driven-keys, etc.
  • Ability to prepare, export, and manipulate animation data suitable for game engines.
  • Ability to design and implement animated sequences involving multiple characters and objects interacting with each other in the technical context of a game engine.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in speech and in writing, manage tasks, files, and other activities beyond the core animation skill-set that are necessary for bringing a project through to completion with a team.

Bonus

  • Experience on a game development team project that has shipped for current PC or console platforms.
  • Experience in Maya MEL/Python and Unity3D C# scripting.
  • Experience setting up Animation Controllers and Timelines in Unity3D.
  • Experience with particle systems, 2D flipbook/sprite animation, and other realtime FX animation methods.
  • Knowledge and experience with any new state-of-the-art tools for generating interactive content.
  • Any other skills that can enhance the creative, technical, and human potential of this tiny studio.

Please submit:

  • A resume of relevant experience.
  • A cover-letter providing any additional relevant info.
  • Links to your demo-reel or online portfolio.
