I’ve been trying to retarget Mixamo animation directly in Unreal Engine but their retargeting options are terrible. So I’m doing the retargeting in Maya LT. I’m able to retarget just fine (created a control rig for both and used the source to transfer the animations) with more than perfect results.
Problem is after the retargeting, the root bone is still at origin but the rest of the bones have moved up effectively making the character float. Is there a way to reduce the size of the root bone so the character as a whole will come back down?
My bone hierarchy is
Root
……Pelvis
……….Everything else

Anyone looking for this in the future, try this.
Select the character. In the Human IK tab,
click on the Blue square icon on the top,
Edit Character Definition --> Edit HIK Properties
Expand the Retarget Specific Section.
Set Hips Level Mode to User.
Below that, set Hips Level value to something negative. Like -5. Look at your viewport and adjust accordingly.
You will see your character's hips align with Mixamo character's hips. Do the same for Ankle Height Comp Mode.
I did this and my animation is back on floor again.
