We’re building Zenith, a VR MMORPG that’s inspired by our favorite JRPGs and animes. We’re working with a small team of crazy talented artists to bring it to life and now we’re looking to add a character concept artist.
Inspired by Miyazaki, Final Fantasy, Nier: Automata, and more -- we are creating a gorgeous, stylized world that would be a perfect home for your favorite anime characters.
As the main character concept artist on the team, your job will be to bring emotional, multi-faceted, characters to life in the world of Zenith. You’ll work with our small and talented game development team to make the most immersive gaming experience ever. You’ll be responsible for shaping the character and costume design for an entire world.
We’re looking for someone with solid anatomy and expression knowledge, with a focus on stylized eastern style aesthetics that would also translate well into 3D.
Our goal is no less than creating the most immersive MMORPG experience ever created. We’re looking for artists that are passionate about world-building, and creating transcendent gaming experiences for our players. This role starts as a temporary contract role (with room to grow), but you will be treated as a partner in our venture.
Responsibilities
Develop character concepts and skins including character sheets, movement studies and detailed breakouts for equipment and weapons
Iterate on game assets with internal and external production artists via paint overs, studies, and group critiques
Define the visual style and design for characters, equipment, armor, and weapons in a modular fashion so that they can be used to create more assets and characters.
Quickly iterate multiple times a day using silhouette studies and shape design, before committing to high detail concept.
Requirements
Experience with manga, anime, and more stylized character designs that also translate into 3D. We aren’t looking strictly for manga, but that’s a closer starting point than realism or western character concept.
Experienced with digital content creation tools such as Photoshop, Painter, etc
A deep understanding of human and creature anatomy and a keen eye towards form, shape, structure, and silhouette in regards to illustration and design
Excellent eye for light, value, composition, and color
Able to carry an idea from the conceptual phase to the finished illustration and an understanding of translating these ideas to real-time game environments
Passionate about games and VR
Pluses
3 years’ experience in animation, film or game development focusing on conceptual artwork
You play and work with VR content
Experience working on VR titles
Shipping experience on games with a similar aesthetic.
3D modeling, z-brush skills, ability to move from 2D to 3D concept.
