Just wanted to share my second year game art character assignment, I really wanted to push my self further with this and it was definitely a lot of fun and very challenging. I hope i did her justice
This was the Main composition i wanted to go with, i felt it encapsulated her status and personality. To me she is very defiant and resilient in the face of any foe.
She is totally hand painted, I really felt like doing this project help me understand a more effective workflow, and it also high lighted my short comings and understandings of certain aspects of character not only visually but technically as well.
The staff is such an important and iconic part of her character and provided a wonderful supporting asset for the final composition. There was no way I could leave it out.
I modeled her in an A pose with the intention of adding some basic bones to get the desired pose in the end. One thing led to another and i ended up doing an IK control rig for her, I had never done a rig before and found it to be really nice therapeutic break towards the end of the project. It really helped my level up and understand the technical side of characters more.
The Zbrush side of this project was not to get to caught up in high frequency detail but more to get a better understanding of where key land marks were, and to get a good base in order to retopologise, as i knew a lot of the detail was going to be hand painted in.
