3dsMax does weird stuff when converting Patch to Poly

Can anyone explain me what's happening with this model? I had one solid model and to break it on parts I converted it into Patch. But the thing is, when I convert it back to Poly it like... I don't even know how to call it. Generates vertices??? I've never encountered this before, this is the first time something like this happens.




Basically what I did is I selected an element in Element Selection mode, pressed Detach and then converted that part to Poly

    Might be your surface/view steps above 0 ?
    But why are you using patch in the first place ? Patch is weird stuff, sort of NURBS/Poly hybrid, I barely see it beeing used tbh. Just detach as elements in editable poly ?

    Yeah, figured it would be the best idea to detach them in poly. Dunno why didn't I try it earlier :\
