How Accurate is the Default UV Checker in Maya 2018 & beyond??

I've been using Maya since 2015 and I've noticed that certain tools such as the Auto UV button have improved immensely. I'm still, however, not sure how accurate it is. I know the checkered parts need to be square shaped with zero stretchings.

I've attached an example below of an object that looks correct by Maya Uv standards but still confuses me.

I'd love to get your input.

Thanks in advance!

The UV checker is 100% precise, press the small button to the left of the checker icon at the top of your UV editor. Your shape seem to be distorted, try reseting your automatic UV polygon mapping, your scale mode is probably set to "stretch to square" or something.
