Having watched a few Blender 2.8 texturing video, I decide to try it for myself.
And I miss some basic features from 2d texturing software: a simple layer list, and ability to save all changes quickly.
I am hoping there is already an addon for Blender 2.8 that manages this, if not, can someone make one so I can send my money your way. (wink)
Basically I would love to have a simplified 3d coat paint room in Blender. (I might buy 3d coat professional one day but I am refraining from using amateur version as it's strictly no-commercial.)

In the meantime just a basic layer list addon would help, I encourage some healthy competition
Yep, I watched a few videos on this, the new tools are good enough. But to do layer texturing you still need to fiddle with node graph, while I don't have a huge problem with it, I prefer an addon that manage them for me. It's basically what we have in Substance Painter or 3D Coat, but I can make do with much less features.
Bpainter looks like your best bet, but as you said, it might not be 100% ready in 2.80 for a few months. Have you contacted the dev for a roadmap?
I saw a few people asking the author of BPainter on Twitter and he didn't reply, nor did he update patreon posts, so probably not on his roadmap for now.
