Art Test - Cozy Cabin

This is the result of an art test I just completed today. I was to create a scene where a house is in a clearing in the woods, at dusk, with sunbeams shining through the trees. The test specified not to create any of the models myself, but to use assets I've downloaded. I mainly used the Unity Asset store, but also dissected a downloadable Sketchfab scene from Flore Vanackere to use the cabin and props (he gave me permission to use these assets).

In this art test, I had 4 days to learn Unity and build a scene, and I think I did OK! If anybody has any critique I'd be more than happy to hear it.

    Good shit!

I'd say the time period is a little hard to judge. Wine barrels and cart suggest middle ages, but the lanterns seem more modern?

For a really cozy feeling, I wonder if more yellow and glow from the lights with a bit darker sky and maybe slight blueish tint or even some atmospheric fog would give a nice effect?

Personally I'd like to see a bit more sky. Maybe some nice evening alpenglow on distant mountains. You know, get all Bob Ross with that shit.

Well done. Hopefully you get some good feedback from the test, and a job too!

Were you applying for a layout artist or set dresser? The criteria is kind of odd to me otherwise.

However the mood is great in this. It's very calming and everything fits nicely. I do agree with Alex that there is a time period disparity between some of the assets but seeing that the criteria was to not make your own stuff I can understand some time wimey stuff occurring.

While the mood is great I feel there is not enough done for story here. I believe much of what set dressing and environment art is about is getting a story across without any characters or dialogue. So far what I can gleam from this house in the woods is that it may not be used very often/ it is somewhat old due to the sagging in the roof plus the moss and debris collection on the roof. That a person is living there right now and may have brought some supplies in for their recent stay.

@Alex Javor  Yah know, I didn't think about the time period too much. Things like time period, style, etc. were quite difficult to achieve because I had to use models I downloaded. It's actually quite difficult to find good quality models which are free and also match specific styles :P I'll keep that in mind for my next projects though.

@zachagreg I wasn't actually applying for a role advertised. An HR rep for this company added me on LinkedIn, I mentioned I'm looking for a role, and she asked me if I wanted to do an art test. I'm guessing their assets are either made at a one of their other locations or they contract that out.
