Hi guys first of all I really appreciate for you helps. 1-I need some tutorial for learning ornamental modeling with Lovely MAYA. 2-what is best DCC for ornamental modeling? 3-what is best pipeline for ornamental modeling? Thanks in advance.
I haven't read the linked thread there, but I made a ton of ornaments recently and the way I did it was to use clip art images (or make your own. photoshops new radial symmetry is great for this), project them onto a plane in zbrush, mask by color intensity, poly group, delete the excess part, then either mirror+weld weld or use panel loops to give thickness. Sculpt details from there.
I manually retopo'd all my stuff. It might seem like that takes a lot of time, but it makes for cleaner, easier UV layout so I'd say that is a big time saver compared to using zremesher alone. And for hard surface/semi hard surface stuff, hard to get really optimal results with an automatic solution.
@Eric Chadwick , thanks for suggestion. I am a few post into the first page, and it's bookmarked. Wealth of resources right there. Too bad I didn't read that before I spent like three months making ornaments, haha.
