This is a CETME C Battle Rifle I've been working on. I'm still struggling to make "good" textures for it, and would really like some advice. I'm trying to stay really subtle with my approach here, lots of very light layers laid on top of a base coat & curvature map. I'm still about halfway through adding details and adjusting things before I move into a game engine. I still need to add some detail to the rear sight, weld spots, and holes for the stock pins.
The magazine texture (I've got both a thirty and a twenty rounder modeled) is from an earlier period in the model's texturing. Model is 11k tris with a 2k texture set (The magazines have 1k textures since they're pretty small by comparison).

It seems like your weapon only has two materials, wood and one metal. On a real cetme/g3 the receiver would be made from stamped metal while other parts would be CnC machined. On your weapons I only see the same metal everywhere.

Look at this reference, you can immediately see that the mag, selector switch etc. are different looking then the receiver. You need a better material definition. Also take a look at other artists work on artstation and study it a bit together with your references.

I hope this helps a bit, good luck!

Thank you for the advice, I tried to apply some of it today. Started off by adjusting the base to make it more in-line with reference images of original rifles which appeared to be completely parkerized on all of its metal bits giving it a dusty, grainy matte look.

Then I went about adding milling marks to bits of the gun that didn't look stamped. I couldn't get the effect to where I really liked it but it's good enough for me.

Finally added some welds around the gun and bits of wear & grease.

I'll hopefully finish off tomorrow by completing the pistol grip & adding stampings.
