This is my first large landscape in Unreal Engine 4 and I've been trying out quite a new engine features that I haven't delved into before.
I started with a landscape heightmap that I made using Photoshop and Substance Designer and used that as a basis for my landscape generation. I made a landscape material that automatically blends ground and rock based on slope, and adds snow based on height. The rocky soil is a separate paint layer that I painted around bodies of water and other areas where I did not want grass to appear. The placeholder trees render procedurally in the same way that the grass is rendered, and will act as filler trees once I have finished my dense foliage assets.
I plan on splattering a number of lodges, trails, and other man-made structures around the map.
