Hi guys, First post here. I am a game art student from Australia and this piece here is my second year environment assessment "Hellreaver". I am looking for any and all critique, thoughts and opinions.
This is the piece of concept art that I produced for it. The premise was a large demonic blade that had shattered the earth after some form of titan or celestial had dropped it. It had been sealed away with chains after it was discovered.
After I blocked out the environment in Maya I transitioned into my best friend Zbrush to detail and change forms. It was the retoped and UV unwraped in Maya
The rocks started off as very low poly objects in Maya the into Zbrush to drastically change the forms. I started of by dragging a rock alpha over the object at a high intensity to guide my sculpting. I then layered the rocks over top of themselves at various thicknesses to give it the jagged, layered look.
It was all textured inside of Substance Painter with a custom smart material I made.
Developed the love potion some more. I add the splosh and sharpened up my metallic highlights. I found that the lighting felt inconsistent in the concept with the metal on the purple part and metal on the cork being too bright. So I brightened the metallic highlight on the purple part to make it feel more consistent.
I have put the Potion bottle on the back burner for a couple of days whilst I knock out the first part of the character assignment for school. Our first part is to model one of 3 Robots Drawn by Jake Parker. We are required to rig and animated it as well. For a couple of hours work I am quite happy with the result. Sub Div modelling is far from my strong area so this served also as a nice little reintroduction to sub div. From here I plan to bake down the details onto a low poly and texture in PBR with an Overwatch style. Substance Painter of course being the program of choice.
OK took a small holiday to unwind. Over the last 2 days I have hit the ground running and finished the little robot boi. Spent the first day rigging and texturing and the next day animating him. I had a blast animating him. It scratched an itch I had been having for animation. From here I plan to finish that bottle and maybe do some little animations on the side. Finished model with anims here https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/robot-9567b6cc898a4cd5b64938917ce2d3e4
Thanks for the comment. Oh I am absolutely going to do that once it gets handed in (have to stick to the concept art). If i remember to come back to it I will probably try a give it a face in a style of an old CRT TV with scan lines ect. It was a nice little challenge to give him emotion with out a face to communicate.
Been I while since an up date. I finally finished the bottle a couple of weeks ago.I am quite proud of how it turned out there are some areas it falls apart such as the pink highlights on the metal ring. For a highlight that strong it should be on more of the bottle. I also think I could of had a more brush strokes through the texturing to get it closer to the concept art.

Started a love potion from the concept art of Irina Aleksandrova https://www.artstation.com/artwork/L2ZgEl
I decided to try something out of my comfort zone and hand paint the model. At the moment I am having a hard time getting the metal sheen correct.
