Any way of moving texture islands with UV islands?

Hello,

Got my hand on some new assets (textured and everything) but it pains me to see that there's a lot of empty space between the islands and I wondered if anyone knows a software that can move the islands on the textures in sync with the UV islands. I guess this could be done manually but it would take an unreasonably long time.

If anyone knows some tricks or software that could help with that  please do tell!

There's nothing that does this live afaik, but what you can do is transfer textures from an old UV to a new one. Designer has a baker for it, not sure about other software.

Do note you'll encounter all the common resampling limitations found when rotating, scaling, and warping textures. So say if you shift and rotate a feature which was originally well aligned with the pixel grid, you can end up with worse quality than before. The process is best used in cases such as taking a very high resolution texture with an inefficient unwrap and transfering it to a lower res one with a high quality unwrap, as you're always downsampling.

I'm in luck then, most assets are 8k. Thank you for the suggestion I'll give it a try asap.
