Echoing Soviet, the basic idea is fairly simple — it's just a matter of rotating and translating a shape to use as a mask. Are you hitting a wall with making a full-material solution?
Max for Tile Sampler is 6 I think, it is possible to make an FX-Map with.... a lot more, I've done up to 76 inputs, if you go that route you'd potentially need some knowledge on FX Maps and functions.

I'm basically asking how to take "1111" and re-purpose it into the rest of those shapes...
Making the tiles is easy. Simple shapes and transforms will do fine for masking
You can change the order the tiles appear in the tile sampler if you need them arranged in a specific way
The problem is the number of tiles you need - I forget the maximum allowed through a tile sampler but I dont think it's as many as 16.
