Tips and Tricks for Human Head UV Layout?

Hey guys,

I've been modelling a human character over the past few weeks and right now I'm at the UV layout of his head. However, I got a few problems (which occur at pretty much any human face, though) - I always get those heavy distortions in the nose, chin and forehead area when trying to create a layout with mostly big, coherent shells . I know this is because they stand out (duh) but are there any tricks or tips you could tell me to get a better result? I tried it with splitting the head from the forehead downwards to the tip of the nose which actually yielded a good result and in the texture the seam was completely invisible (since I'm texturing in Substance Painter and it's really great at hiding seams) - however, I'm not sure if this is the correct way to solve this since I've never seen anybody else do it like this. What are standard procedures and what tools should I use to imrpoce my workflow? I'm working in Maya 2018 right now.

Thanks in advance! :)
