wood lath - mortar problem

hi/ can anybody give me advice how to make this kind of mortar come from groove and  hanging to the down ?!!
i make the woods and nails. 
for mortar i use gradient and histogram scan and blned it with original groove for earning the white tape from top of the
groove to the down (maximum amount of my mortar)

after that i try to make mortar with directional warp
as you can see i can not make the mortas in right way/ ofcourse i make mortar with very low tolorance warp but i want somewhere mortar come down alot and somewher very low efffect like that original photo.

i am so apreciated for any help and advice.unfortunatly it isn't possible for me to buy the tutorial so plz don't suggest that. tnx

Try a slope blur or multiple warps.
