Looking for extra-hard charcoal pencils. Anyone have a favorite they like?
I used to love General's 2H, but they discontinued making them. I found a box of 2Hs on an art store site. But they're not as hard as I remember. More like HB.
The bits in my sketchbook thread are all done with the older 2H, which seemed to be harder?
Faber Castell "Pitt" Hard (the black one) is the closest I've found. But it's still a bit soft.
I like extra hard because I can lay down really light initial marks, great for figuring out proportions, but I'm able to use just enough pressure that the paper grain doesn't break up my strokes.
Also, I prefer charcoal over graphite, less shine and easier to erase.
Looking for replacements... any ideas?
